SHIRLEY IS AN EDITORIAL, STREET AND EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER. THESE ARE HER FIRST PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF HER WORK. SHE HAS TAKEN THOUSANDS OF PHOTOGRAPHS WITH HER DSLR CAMERA IN THE LAST DECADE AND HAS DECIDED TO SHARE SOME WITH THE PUBLIC. THE IMAGES ARE PRINTED ON HARD BOARD AND MEASURES 20 X 16 INCHES. ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN IN CHINATOWN AND LITTLE ITALY OF LOWER MANHATTAN.
SHIRLEY WAS BORN IN NEW YORK CITY AND RAISED IN LOWER MANHATTAN, SPECIFICALLY CHINATOWN. SHE EARNED HER INDEPENDENCE AT AN EARLY AGE RUNNING AROUND THE COMMUNITY AS A CHILD OF WORKING IMMIGRANT PARENTS. SHIRLEY WANDERED THROUGHOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND CAPTURED IMAGES IN HER EARLY TEENS WITH HER FIRST CAMERA THAT USED 110 FILM.
IN HIGH SCHOOL, SHIRLEY ATTENDED FILM PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES AND WAS THE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS EDITOR OF “SEWARD WORLD," THE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER. SHE ALSO HAD A SHORT STINT AS THE PHOTOGRAPHER WITH A LOCAL NYC YOUTH NEWSPAPER, "NEW YOUTH CONNECTIONS."
MOST OF SHIRLEY'S PHOTOGRAPHS CAPTURES HUMANITY, MOVEMENT, EMOTION, IRONY, STRUGGLE, AND IMAGES THAT PROVOKES A THOUGHT OR BRINGS A SMILE TO YOUR FACE. WHEN SHE DOESN'T HAVE HER DIGITAL DIGITAL CAMERA, SHE CAPTURES THE MOMENT WITH HER CELL PHONE. SHE HAS NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY PRESS CREDENTIALS.
